MathCounts Team Places 3rd at Chapter Competition

Ten eighth grade Algebra 1 students competed on Monday, February 12, 2024 at UNK in the MathCounts Chapter Competition. The 4-Person Team--Psalm Frank, Claire McCorkle, Savannah McCarty and Finn Bogardus-- placed third out of 20 schools and qualified to compete in Lincoln for the State MathCounts Competition on March 16.  There were 132 students at the competition.


Students attending were Summer Knight, Analia Almanza, Jack Cochran, Klaire McCorkle, Psalm Frank, Warren Witt, Noah Clause, Finn Bogardus, Carlee Doherty, and Savannah McCarty . Students were chosen for the team by competing in a school competition in Mrs. Jennings's Algebra 1 Class. 

Each student participated in the individual Sprint Round and Target Rounds. Then, the 4-person team competed in the Team Round.  All rounds consists of difficult problem solving problems. The Sprint Round has 30 problems to be completed in 40 minutes without the use of a calculator. The Target Round has four separate tests each containing 2 problems to be completed in six minutes. The students are allowed to use a calculator on the Target Round and Team Round. The Team Round  has 10 problems where the four students are allowed to work together.  Students compete individually for places using their scores on the Sprint and Target Round. The top four individuals qualify for state. Then, the team of four competes for Team places using their four individual scores and the team round score.   The top four teams qualify for state.
