I want to share an update regarding the brief Secure protocol that was implemented today around 12:30 p.m.
Earlier in the morning, the school was made aware of a domestic disturbance at a nearby apartment complex. Around lunchtime, while 4th grade students were outside for recess, several police officers were present at that location. Out of an abundance of caution, 4th grade was brought inside, and 5th grade remained indoors for recess.
At that time, school administration also became aware of a report circulating on social media regarding someone allegedly taking pictures of children. To ensure student safety, complete a perimeter check, and gather additional information from law enforcement, the building was placed into a SECURE. When we go into a SECURE, we make sure everyone stays inside. School goes on as usual!
Law enforcement confirmed that they were responding to a domestic situation in the area that was not related to the school, and there was no identified threat to students or staff. Once this information was confirmed, the Secure was lifted.
Student safety is always our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding as we take precautionary steps when situations occur near school grounds. All students and staff remained safe throughout the situation.
Please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions.

It’s been a great start to school! We have some sleepy kids today 🙂 (Principal too!). Please keep safety in mind at morning drop-off. I placed out crossing signs. Safest drop-offs are on West 1st St. (southbound), West G (north side of building), or West F (next to school) so kids don’t cross streets. It’s especially important when days get shorter. Thanks for helping keep our kids safe!
