Nebraska Digital Citizenship Symposium and Contest 5.8.25

The Nebraska Digital Citizenship Symposium, sponsored by Nebraska Educational Service Units (ESUs), recently hosted a statewide day long event and offsite contests. Students in grades K-12 were invited to submit a Digital Citizenship Poster or a Public Service Announcement communicating something they had learned about Digital Citizenship. Entries were submitted online.

All of Central Elementary's 5th graders produced outstanding posters to promote various Digital Citizenship principles including Digital Footprint, Privacy and Security, Media Balance, Fake News and Kindness Online. These principles were taught as a series of lessons integrated into the Social Studies classroom throughout the 2024-2025 school year. Students independently chose their topics, composed the messages and designed their posters. It was left up to them to design their posters digitally or on paper. Collections of the CE poster entries submitted to the contest by McCook students can be seen by visiting these links (categorized by page orientation): Landscape Gallery Portrait Gallery This year's contest saw the largest number of entries to date. Entries were judged in four grade level categories.

Of the 234 contest entries, 36 medal winners and 7 Honorable Mentions were chosen and announced. The 3rd - 5th grade division poster contest was swept by Central Elementary students!

Congratulations to our winners: Acacia Frank - 1st Place, Canon Crawford - 2nd Place, Maya Webb - 3rd Place; Honorable Mention: Jase Dixon, Matthew Fulkerson, and Ryker Mooney.

In addition, Brekyn Ruppert was presented a "Central Citizen" award for supporting her classmates and consistently representing all the traits of a good citizen, online and in person.
