Course Title:                Introduction to Fitness                      Recommended for:  Grade 10

Course Length:           Year

Credits:                       10

Prerequisite:                None

College Prep:               No

Part of the time, the student will participate in traditional sport activities to enhance cardiovascular fitness.  These sport activities include but are not limited to: football, softball, soccer, golf, volleyball, basketball, badminton, pickle ball, and field hockey.  On alternating days, the student will engage in muscular strength development and endurance exercises to develop his/her anaerobic performance level.  Health concerns will be addressed in a lab setting one day per week.  Proper shoes and attire are required.

In this course, a special emphasis will be on the student to develop a personal exercise plan, learning to test for his/her fitness problems, as well as solve said problems.  The class will consist of various “cross training” activities each week including: walking, jogging, swimming, biking, aerobic exercise and dance, walleyball, volleyball, basketball, racquetball, pickleball, badminton, and strength enhancement exercises.

This class is designed for the serious physical fitness student.  Five days per week, the student will engage in muscular strength and endurance building exercises.  The exercises have been divided into the following four categories: pushing exercises, pulling exercises, leg exercises, and agility drills.  Proper stretching techniques and running form will be stressed.
