Course Title: Spanish I Recommended for: Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

In this class, the student will concentrate on developing a good vocabulary in Spanish and learning the basic fundamentals of grammar. The four skills of learning a foreign language will be emphasized, namely: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The student will be introduced to the culture of countries where Spanish is spoken. Students need to pass the first semester in order to continue their studies second semester.

The second year Spanish student will have the opportunity to expand their vocabularies considerably. The student will learn to use several different tenses in Spanish and will be able to develop reading comprehension skills. They will begin to develop skills in conversation and be writing original compositions in Spanish. The student will need to pass the first semester in order to continue his/her study second semester.

Third year Spanish students will concentrate on the development of conversational Spanish. They will spend a majority of time learning to speak fluently in order to express original thoughts and guided responses. There is a comprehensive grammar review, an introduction to Spanish literature, and an explanation of Hispanic culture presented in this course.
