This basic course in accounting covers theory that can be applied in keeping books on a personal level. Also covered is small and larger businesses covered as sale proprietorships, and partners and corporations. This course is strongly recommended for those students who are interested in business as a career.

This course continues from the point mastered in Accounting I. There is a strong emphasis on accounting careers. Students learn how to keep books for partners and corporations. Students will also learn how to set up accounting systems and keep accounting records on the computer.

This course will build upon concepts and skills mastered in Business Computer Applications I. Included in this course will be an introduction to the most popular business software, Microsoft Office. Emphasis will be placed upon business situations and preparing the student for an entry-level position as an Administrative Assistant. Areas covered include: speed building (45 wpm), word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, database, presentations, 10-key, business computer applications, and the job search process (letter of application, resume, and interview).

This course teaches students about the legal environment in which we live and the laws that govern us in society. Areas covered are: the rights and obligations of citizenship, how our laws developed, the court system, the study of contracts, employment laws, laws concerning rent and owning property, and insurance and estate planning.

This is a semester course divided into three parts. In the first part, the student will use HyperCard to design web-like home pages. The second part of the course emphasizes using PageMaker to perform various desktop publishing tasks, including making a brochure, a newsletter, and a one-page newspaper. The third part of this course introduces the student to Computer Assisted Drafting or (CAD). Here the student will draw to scale several floor plans and building fronts.

This course was built on the premise that all workers are expected to communicate effectively; access, analyze, and share information; make decisions; and use technology to improve production. It is designed to develop skills that will be important in a professional or business position. The objectives of this course are to: (1) develop information management, technology, & communications skills; (2) develop awareness of the necessity of learning new technologies; (3) develop time management skills, and (4) reinforce basic math, language, decision-making, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. The majority of these skills will be assessed through office simulation packets.

This course is designed to provide the student with knowledge and experience in web page development and file management, while working on the McCook Public Schools web pages. All projects will be completed on PC compatible machines using software such as: FrontPage, Dream Weaver, Fireworks, Freehand, and others. Each student will have access to and be responsible for building and maintaining web pages for McCook Public Schools. Grades will be determined by the completeness of the individual pages, the creativity used in the development of the pages, and the efficient use of class time.
